How do skateboards fit into Shakespeare?

William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream is staged in today's high school world with cheerleaders, football players, drama students and a team of Pucks skate boarding their way through the woods. In North Star Academy's presentation of  'A Midsummers Night's Dream' you'll see how the themes are just as current today. Are you Team Lysander or Team Demetrius?

Shakespeare's comedy, "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM", is presented
with a modern twist which includes iconic high school characters and
multiple punk Pucks skateboarding through the woods
October 21-24 at North Star Academy.

North Star Academy's Shakespeare program is unique to the area bringing the study of
the words of Shakespeare to children in 3rd-8th grade. This year, as an added bonus,
North Star's Youth Orchestra will be performing music from Mendelssohn's "Midsummer
Night's Dream. There has been a Shakespeare Performance and curriculum enrichment
program for 14 years at North Star Academy, a public elementary school which earned a
California Distinguished School Award in 2010. The program will involve 80 students
this year. The performance is funded in part by North Star Parent Club and a grant from
the Redwood City Cultural Commission.

"Setting 'A Midsummer Night's Dream" in a modern day high school makes it relevant
for our students... and more engaging. Of course, the characters, the plot, and the fun are
timeless. Settings can change... but human nature doesn't."

modern twist that only Shakespeare can deliver.
